October 17th - Field Trip - Some south bay nutters are going off with the hard shit this weekend, just got offerred a week before... I'll see if I can get Li to copilot this one (haven't spun with Li in a while!)
December 5th - Skills3 - Radley Marx and I assume attack formation and hope to present some wicked harder techno, acid and trance sounds for the people at Skills3. AHven't 2x'ed with Radley, so this should be fun. :)

History, Journal and Reviews (mine and theirs)

I started out playing small house parties out of my house. At first, I spun ambient (I've liked ambient longer than anything else played at raves) off one CD player and a turntable. Soon, I started getting a tad hooked and got the ball rolling with more equipment. I've been very fortunate to be part of a varied and forgiving scene that allows a broad range of experimentation and exploration of various styles, and I've had the good fortune to spend time with other DJ's I could learn from for years to come (hella props to all the people who sat there nodding their heads back and forth while I trainwrecked in my room, your comments and reactions were words and acts of love and I will always appreciate them).

My Old House 1/1/97 - Played ambient and downtempo for those phreaks with enough energy to keep going after Cloud Factory's NYE party in Monterey. PlayEd for some 7 hours on one 1200, my screwy Gemini deck (which is now just a painful memory), and a CD player. Nothing beats seeing your living room turn into a blithering pile of happy, tired people still decked out in 1-2 day old party garb (nothing a couple sticks of Nag Champa incense couldn't fix though).
Golden Gates 1/26/97- Trip hop and ambient, steppin on each others toes. My set got cut a little short by the second sound system not showing up. Cops ended up shutting us down in the middle of a delightfully tweaked ambient set from Sig. This party actually got reviewed in XLR8R as being a lot of good intentions and not enough experience. Don't see how experience would prevent unlawful entrance (if I did it it would be called breaking and entering) without probable cause into a private building. This was the first party that got busted that I played at, and to be honest, it's a very different feeling when you've worked with the people that made an event go, and you see everything go wrong in the space of a few minutes by officers who are more interested in "teaching the kids a lesson" than upholding the law.
Euphonic Genesis 2/15/97- Hella fun ambient room, lotta sound leak, had some great company (Burger King and Indigo, you rock). Crazy night... we got a sound complaint within hours of the party starting, so we managed to keep it pretty quiet till the morning started coming up. Still amazing historically because an all night rave went off in downtown San Jose, maybe a couple hundred feet off Alameda. South Bay has the energy... now to find a location that won't let it leak out to the neighbors.
New Hope 3/7/97- My first "main floor" DJ experience. Wow... too much fun on an altogether beautiful morning. A thousand thanks to Alex and Adam (one for booking me and one for keeping me sane). Thanks also to all the smiling faces out there. Strike one up for renegade parties... with a little moral support from my friends Todd and Neil who came up from LA, I had the time of my life.

Branka (SF-Raves)

It was fun watching Adam running around and looking for AndyW when his set was about to start :). Andy was somewhere taking a nap, but was rudely awaken to spin for us. By this time it was getting lighter, and possible to actually see people who were there, and it was just great realizing that I knew more people there than I thought. Andy's set was fun :) - it was great to hear some unusual house that turned into trance. This was my favorite part of the party - it was getting sunny, there were still people dancing, walking on the beach, and everybody seemed really happy. People were hanging out, some drinking beer, some eating oranges and everything seemed so beautiful (and I wasn't on E, although I am sure for some people that's how it sounds). I kept thinking "There should be more days (and nights) like this"

MattK (SF-Raves)

definite highlight was waking up to some spoken-word vibrations and hey! andy's on the tables! the sun was up, people were stretching out and grooving down, and andy was pulling out some mix trix too wake up our minds too. big cheers for that crazee-ass guy with the cane, who was still working his pimp-daddy trip nonstop. what was with that?

finally, decided that it was time to head back for a hot shower and breakfast, and end-of-term assignments (yuk). i was thinking, it's too bad not that many people are left to dance to andy's stuff - it's really prime. and then i walked out the crest of the hill, and everywhere you looked here and there were groups of four or six or ten people, prospecting and talking and dancing in the morning sun to the beats coming over the hill. yeah!

KAZU 3-19-97- Forcing warped sound into a 4200 watt transmitter serving the Monterey and Santa Cruz areas is good for the soul at 3am. Too fun being able to run outside and listen to your own damn records on the car radio. Great time throwing down with fellow San Jose DJ's Science and Siphon (damn Junglists...). Thanks a lot for having us by Laura!!!
Symbiosis 3-29-97Ambient and TripHop Entertainment. Fly translove airways... gets you there on time. Strange set... never will get used to play opening set in a chill room. Definite highlight was Dhiren from Koininea running up flailing his arms to "Thus Spake Zarathustra" from the 2001 soundtrack, with meeting GameCat (the guy who helped design the graphics and layout of the Blue mixer and also happens to spin some badass hardstep jungle) a close second. Probably not my best performance ever (weird crowd - just a little tough to connect with and too close to the door, deafening monitors and I had to pee from drinking too much chai), but I learned a lot on this one. Main lesson... you don't keep Chai (a sweet, spicy Indian tea), you borrow it. I also met this really cool woman named Hope... who would end up having a pretty significant effect on my next couple months.
BNB 1 Year Scouting Party 4-12-97 - I promised I'd only put "real" events in this section but I had such a killer time I had to mention it. It was the maiden voyage of my new power amp and monitors too. They had fun, as did Todd Manley, Science and Siphon who helped test the audio integrity of our proposed space. Recruited Bushmills for moral support. Roughing it was never so hard. Imagine if we got a couple hundred people together with the same feel...
Saturday April 19th - Beats on the Beach - Sunrise set for 4/20. Scary fun set, probably one of the most solid lineups I have had the pleasure of ending. Had a lot of fun, but I almost couldn't tell because I was sweating the mixes hard. I think I will always be a sucker for morning sets, with everyone dancing around being all cute and natural looking. Several people claimed not to have heard a bad mix all night long. Amazing party with DJ's James, Todd Manley, Vertigo, Siphon, Science, little ole me playing some minimal trance, house and even closing with some reggae and Tony Rotundo wrapping it up with a PHAAAAT disco set that was so fun to relax to. Lucky I guess... thanks Tim. Hey Yogi, I don't think the ranger liked this one... left the spot pristine, but he still didn't like us... what gives? Tim ended up being the bearer of the ticket on that one...
Saturday April 26th - Wavelength Got to play trip hop for 1.5 hours solid (didn't know I had that much, you see I was told there would be a CD deck there, but it never materialized). Following Joe Rice left me feeling somewhat intimidated, but I felt more comfortable after the first couple tracks... aside from the nic fits. Big bushy beats pushing out of the Cloud Sound system, eventually bringing up the sun and getting everyone going for the long road home (or cleanup for those of us who have massive guilt complexes or got in for free). Also, my first taped show... and the tape pretty much reiterated what I thought, little shaky on the beginning and pretty solid after that, with lots of music you don't usually hear at parties. Most trainspotters I've ever seen during one of my sets, but trip hop tends to do that as it's less popular than most forms around these parts, but some of it sounds really weird. Yummy....
Tuesday May 20th - Cloud Factory Presents Spin Cycle Got a chance to play at the black box weekly in Monterey. Pretty fun, but since I went up late I lost some of the crowd. Hardest music I played out including some hard trance and hard experimental techno. Fun though... my first "weekly". Also the first time I spun out two copies of the same record (Plastikman's acid mix of 777's Alphawave, an old warhorse with the raunchiest buildups ever recorded) and did "groovy live remixing" or something like that. Too bad I couldn't get out of it too easily... loved looking up to see the ASR's gathered around the decks just watching me freak out over the buttons, switches, dials and knobs.
Saturday May 24th - Charity Presents Return to Innocence From what I had heard previous, this was supposed to be the same Charity that threw that party at the Acme with all three floors open, but apparently not. The party was plagued with some scheduling issues, and I ended up playing a short set (maybe 40min) towards the end of the party (I was told I was opening). The party wasn't over I guess though, so Micron and I went record for record for about another hour after that. Very fun, and although I didn't get to play for some good friends I had invited (hi Marcos & Raquel!) I do believe they had a good time anyway before they had to leave.
Monday May 26th - Cloud Factory OODE Campout A collective of NorthWestern and Bay Area/Monterey area and even some Canucks are getting together in the forest for the sake of getting together. Isn't spontentaity great... This was a party. Cloud Factory like I remember from last year, very together, best party of theirs I'd been to since well into last year. Amazing vibe, amazing location, and an altogether almost hitch free event, shy of drinking at tad too much before my 5:00am set and Shaggy's records getting hoisted by some uninvited evildoers.
Saturday May 31st - 8pm KZSU 2 hour show (called Underbrush) with the almighty Stinky. Made my day when the phone rang during my set, and a loyal listener commented on how I was tearing it up. Too bad it was Greg calling from his car phone... damn jokers... Big props to Radon (Dave) for running a outlet radio show open to so many different styles o' music. Diversity of appreciation is unity of purpose.
Saturday June 7th - Beats Didn't actually DJ, but got to take MUTOR out for the first time. MUTOR is a collectively owned and operated sound system based on the Cloud Sound system, capable of making 3000 watts, give or take a little (I personally own a couple parts of it). Good solid bass, need more watts and cabinets though... I like it loud.
Sunday June 8th - The House Not that I'd usually mention something like this on the calendar, but I had much fun, and it's a little landmark for me. I played 2 x 4 with James (aka Slayer, heh heh hehhhhh), and we had much fun including getting a couple runs of four records going. Maybe I just had a great weekend... I'll shut up now.
Friday June 13th - Harmony Presents Freaky People Very nice finally attending a small Harmony (outdoor even!), plus I got to spin a morning set. Thanks to it being kinda cold and the vibe being a little on the funky side (as is always the case at freaky people parties), I decided to play a holy terror morning set, complete with a short shred of a Prince track, some trance, some techno, some house, some breaks. Don't know if Greg and Matt liked it, but if I never play a Harmony again I guess that will be my answer. : ) Thank you!
Saturday June 21st - Wonder (was "Through the Looking Glass) Um... never been busted half way through a set before... it was a pretty decent set too, I thinks. Oh well... you always wonder when you're going up if it will happen, and one day it does. Funniest moment of the party would be Spencer running up and asking me to turn it down, so I do. He says turn it down, so I do... he's still upset... why? He meant turn it OFF. Ahhh....
Friday July 18th - Viberation The crew bit it a little on this one, with a sweep by the locals rangers taking any plans we had for our evening and throwing them to the wind. After a desperate attempt to regroup and come back strong, we finally spent the morning hours in a coffee shop parking lot reminiscing about weird renegades and ditch parties and ended up at my house. Whaaaa.
Saturday July 26th - True Love So I figured, I'm playing downstairs after the Amanda and Dustin wedding ceremony... what better to play than slower, bouncy yet hard techno and a little bit more trance than I might usually play... lotsa fun, and technically one of the better sets I think I've played out.
Sunday July 27th - Chris and Dino's House Party Weee. Free beer and food. Noah (aka Siphon) spun fat disco. I didn't. Scared them with dark trip hop and even some more commercial trance. Entertaining, but I got headache.
Friday August 8-10th - BBQ & Beats Campout Hee hee hee. Played tweaked hard techno, progressive trance, breakbeat, acid house and a whole bunch of other stuff that didn't go together with a whopping hangover (at 6am even...) and an eye that wouldn't focus because I had almost gouged it out with a twig the night before. Still had fun, and I hope that's what it's all about. Amazing party, beautiful trees all weekend, okay set, crumby cleanup.
Friday August 15-17th - 4x4 Campout Oh boy. This party was really weird. So I spun a really stacked set at the ambient area off three 1200's and threw some CD's in to boot. Thanks to some weird coincedence, my set ended up being three hours long. Little tiring (I never realized the care and feeding that many sources was a full time job), but I got a chance to spin some of my favorite tracks (some of which I had never spun out before, thanks to Brian's CD decks). I was a little... er... exhausted at the end of my set, and almost faceplanted when I tried to get up from the decks... did I mention the gift some people brought me at 4:20? Thanks Dan.... and some other really supportive folks who hung out for the whole damn thing and even had a couple nice things to say and a hug for me at the end.
Wednesday August 20th - Slow Roasted Wow. I really had fun. It was Matt, then Alex then me. Everything was gorgeous, except Alex left me a track with a tempo that kept wavering that made my first mix sound fuggy and all these people kept asking why stop Slow Roasted. Here's why: my speakers weigh a billion tons, okay? And it's getting cold soon, and that patio sucks when it's cold. That's why.
Saturday August 23rd - Lepidoptera Bummer about drinking too much beer and sweating so much I ended up frying the mixer... sorry Greg (he was blessed with going after me, sweat soaked mixer and all)... either way, the headphone queue blew out about 4 songs before the end of my set. The vibe at this party was damn nice, but then so was the temperature. I'll shut up. Dave is the nicest promoter out there (& the rest of the butterfly people), and I have their back dammit. That set was fun, the location looked great, Lepidoptera gets it, in a scene where I wonder about a lot of crew's intentions. My only gripes would be the temperature (always a problem at this location though), and the sound system... a Peavey with no monitors.
Saturday September 20th - Play Nice I got dropped from the lineup a week before the party but still did sound for free. It was my birthday to boot. And then a drunk hothead claiming to be Kid Bippy's manager got in my face about Kid Bippy's right to play at presicely 1:00am despite the prior DJ only being on for 20 minutes... and being ReAch who fuggin shreds. Don't hate the guy, but I guess he was a tad drunk. What a blowhole...
Friday October 10th - PKK present "Welcome to the Lab" I did sound only for this one. Russ and Burl (spelling?) threw down with the good intentions, but it was a bit too cold for most. Some seriously twonked people dancing in tanktops all night... drugs/people are amazing like that. Me, I slept all night within earshot, just to make sure it sounded good. Wind aside, I thought it sounded great. Would have liked the party a lot more if it was obvious that it was an outdoor when people bought their tickets. Oh well.
Friday October 17th - Viberation Aieeee!!!!!!!! When you take these things too seriously, they have a tendency to lose their magic. To some degree I found it again at this event. Definitely a re-energizing evening, and an opportunity to see a billion people I miss very much from time to time. Lineup was Li, Science, SirNod (CF), nTimid8R (CF), Siphon, Micron and AndyW. Delivered some harder techno, good amount of clang, for a special morning for everyone there. Nice vibe, lotsa dancing which is nice to see at a party that had very little promotion. Hope to see the same vibe on a larger scale at the next Viberation.
Friday November 14th - Wonder This party was hella fun. Sweaty, slightly nuts, big - big - big sound system in a little bitty room... maybe 200 people in there, and this heat coming off everything. Got on a good roll and kept it for what seemed to be most of my set. Probably the best time I've had playing second ever... and even though I was sober I felt like somebody had put something in my drink by set's end... good energy in there... wow.
Saturday November 15th - Viberation presents Sinister I loved just dancing and working at this party...... and I got to close it too. I was against closing it at first, but I'm so glad I got to... great energy till the very end, they even had the jungle room close a little early so everybody could get together for the closers. I think I got a bit too drunk and made some mistakes I wouldn't have otherwise, but shesh that vibe was good. High point was spinning for the first 30 minutes or so of my set with Li, we kept throwing weird ripping bongo - techno records at each other until he ran out of vinyl. Woohoo!!! Lineup was Micron with some trance, Greg Sandler dropping all kindsa crazy shit, Sho going into techno land, Li increasing the pressure, and me I guess releasing the pressure... or something like that. We also had some crazy jungle madness downstairs with Meeks dropping a very jmp-up set, followed by Science (a sort of mentor of mine), Flux and Rinse from da Bass Kru, ReAch scaring away the weak hearted with a techstep & hardcore rave up, and Siphon closing the night (probably as drunk as I was at this point too, seeing as we were drinking the same damn Foster's oil cans). By the end of this weekend, I'd played two different sets at my two favorite kinds of parties, the crazed sweat-o-matic renegade rave, and a more restrained mature crowd with better planning and a low key vibe more focused on the music. Amazing weekend, it was rough going back to being happy with work, bills, and regular sleep hours.
Saturday December 27th - Beautiful People I got to spin around 4-6am, and I think the hour just really got to me... and that brownie didn't help either. Anywhoo, got to come in after a bomb ass trip hop set from Bonnie (Maiz), and the records I brought were kinda more geared towards a traditional Harmony chill room (lots of carpet, pillows, people crashing out all over the place). Instead, it was a linoleum floor... not too good for people flopping out on, and there was pretty much a "second room" vibe as opposed to the super mellow ambient environment I might have been expecting. Crowd was supportive, but I brought music that was just way too mellow.
Wednesday December 31st - Origin New Years Eve This was fun, in a weird way. I actually had a lot of fun playing the party, but failed to get paid in a timely fashion (I rarely request payment, but I had other plans for New Year's Eve, and Nomad [da promotah] was alright with it). It was a total gas playing tweaky techno for people who probably haven't had much exposure to it. In fact, I am still to be paid. Kind of a let down, but maybe they'll come through.

1998

January 9-11th - Stargaze II Throw a whole bunch of geeks and ravers into a cabin in the high sierras. Add really good vibe, and a lineup including Stillwind, Radley Marx, Zza and Kurt doing live PA off his MC-303 and it was a pretty good time. This was also a morning set... should have been recorded thanks to team geek. We'll see what it sounds like, hopefully. All in all, it was a great party... tons of amazing people, good vibe, no legal trouble, great music, and everybody was wholly supportive and just loving it the whole time. Did I mention SNOW to play in, and no heat problems (open a window, and it got cool QUICK)?
January 16th - Lepidoptera Aw yeah...dropping the loopy loop loop in San Jose. Nice location, convenient bar access for those who prefer a legal tweak on things. Managed to skip up and down stairs and have much fun. Sets from a couple locals, myself and then DaveQ himself got up and had something to say in the techno vein. Nice! Really nice hitting this event and getting a 2am slot... had a lot of fun pushing MUTOR at about half volume in this sweet renegade space. Ups to Lepidoptera for another beautifully planned event, with some of the nicest people in the scene.
Tuesday January 20th 11:30pm-2:30 am - Conscious Groove Wehhaaa! A radio spot. I love playing on the radio because I'm never quite sure who's listening... and I always loved "Pump Up the Volume", and well... it's being on the radio dammit. Should be a overall mix of all the stuff I play... you can do a lot in three hours (like trainwreck, or accidentally bump a record while it's playing). Check it out on Free Radio Berkeley 104.1fm (there's a cool techno/downtempo/jungle show every Tuesday with FatSlice, our ever charming hostywummin).
March 7th - Harmony/Innercense - This party was just plain ridiculously fun. Li and I meant to practice beforehand, but never really got around to it. The set went off, great slot, and the crowd was good to go. Couple moments where it just seemed like everybody was just hopping... and it was a riot dropping Oliver Ho and some other not so listener friendly stuff to take people through the hole...
March 14th - Velocity Quest - A pleasant journey, this time I actually got around to some boarding... enjoyed kicking it in the cabin with the whole gang... nice bunch of folks. Had a good broad range of music, except for Li, Catweasel and I all spinning sorta similar techno sets... and to be honest the altitude and something in the water kept people from really getting too uppity on the dancing side of things. A lot like a great house party in the mountains, and some fun to be had teaching some people new to boarding how to ride.
March 23rd - afterglo - Opening Night - this was a really epic thing for us, I don't know if it seems like much to anybody else, but this was the first night of our new weekly. Just residents, with Alex, Li and I all doing what we love to do, with about 3000 watts backing it up.
April 18th - Viberation presents - Vibe This! - This was the sequel to Sinister, with a similar room layout. DJs were the residents plus Ethan, Cloud, J-bot going head to head with Li, and Catweasel playing opposite myself. Although the set wasn't too smooth, we got the room going about 5 records in and kept a couple good runs going... lots of hopping, screaming, and even my first exposure to funky groupie style behavior. I honestly had the time of my life, but not knowing John as well as I know Li had an effect on how well we connected. Downstairs, an alltogether different event was kicking in, with a downtempo presence from Tha Roman (you good mofo!), and Joe Rice freaking everybody out with a gorgeous D&B set... Maiz was sick that night, so last slot consisted of a morning schooling by Science, Siphon, and Joe.
May 2nd - ASR presents - Tricky - Greg Sandler and I did the 2x thing at this one... and I misjudged the rate at which gelatin dissolves, resulting in the last half or so of our set having some interesting mixes on the part of yours truly. That is all I have to say. Some parts, I think we did really well, and some parts, I have an excuse. MUTOR was in full collective effect, with all of CloudSound and all my stuff there... it was LOUD.
May 16th - First Light - Busted on my third record. DOH!!!! A funky weird space in the Tenderloin (one of the bay area's most charming neighborhoods!), got to go up after Tracer and Icon or something like that... ended up being a lot of fun anyways. Still waiting on a makeup for this one... the slot I had was pretty good, and the crowd seemed ready for some slamming beats.
May 23rd - Cloud Factory - OODE (the Out Of Doors Experience) - Got to play some of my own tracks, and ended up playing background music to Rocky and the Surrealsitic Golfers. Ended up having a groovin experience overall... good people and good music turning it out one more time! Go deep ambient!!!
May 30th - Fuzz-E productions presents - Bass Invaders - Well, my set started, there's nobody at the party, and life is looking drab. Phooey. By some weird convoluted turn of events, I end up playing later, from about 3am till 6am in the jungle room. Great crowd, just kept feeding the tech house and techno till the sun was coming through the skylights... a nice morning, even if Jason did lose his shorts and the event and couldn't afford to pay me.
July 10th - Harmony V - By most accounts, the most painful bust of the year. Li and I had second slot after Sho's no show. So we started it up in the big Garden Space, 2x4 style (I started about 20 minutes before Li got there). Funny looking up seeing nobody, then around 300, then around 700 all within a couple records. Nice energy, and my first "raised stage" opportunity. Not sure I was too fond of being elevated on this stage thing... it's a lot nicer spinning on the ground, but I can also see the point with not being able to see the DJ, etc...
August 1st - Friends and Family Campout - Well, luck of the draw took good care of me this time around... playing from 11:45pm till 1am Saturday night. Hoping my records and skill (?) will be what the doctor ordered...
Stargaze III - August 7,8,9 - Another Stargaze, a cozy event with too much trance. :)
August 15th - California100 - Todd is throwing his party (we're so proud!). Looks like a desert event, complete with morning trance and techno right after that. Huha!!! SoCal locale.
August 22nd - Geocentric Beats - The list kids are at it again, with plans for a Tahoe area party to benefit the Tahoe Preservation Society. Eclectic lineup, featuring many up and comers.
September 5th - FGE/Megabuzzworks - Okay, so I don't usually work with "massive promoters", but Vlad has let his actions speak louder than his words for some time... offerring free water and other caveats that seem to indicate some respect for the standards of the underground. I'm doing this one on good faith, and we'll see what my impression will be like. People seem to really like his events, and it'll be nice going to one for a slot and seeing what the buzz is all about. Oh, and I'm 2x4ing with Macadio, which should be pretty damn freaky...
September 17th - Sabotage - This was the first of the long awaited "I'm gonn play till I puke" week. Had a good time of it, playing the occasionally less than packed Il Pirata. Got some funky slower grooves going, in fact, I had so much fun playing slow records it set the tone for the rest of the week.
September 18th - Play Nice One Year - Well, thanks to a little bit of confusion, this ended up being merged with the Harmony party the same weekend. Did pretty well, the parties were basically one. Since I was originally scheduled to play both, I ended up dropping a couple records with Terrac during his set... there's a CD out somewhere of that set... hope to hear it someday!
September 19th - Harmony - At midnight, I got up to the decks, and it became my birthday. The crowd dancing vibe was among the best I've ever seen, I really considered myself very lucky to get an opportunity like this. Dropped all kinds of heinous stuff, from trance to techno to some borderline speed garagey rollers. Couple cheers from the crowd, and props all around. There was magic at the deck that night... the sets from Li, Greg, Macadio were all taking the dancers places! Additional props to the freaks in the chill area... heard an AMAZING opener to Shoam's set, and caught the tail of Re:'s bombastic jungle session. Musically, one of the best parties I have ever been to, and I was so stoked to have been part of it!
September 22nd - Static! - Maybe I tried too hard. Maybe I wanted it too bad. Finally, after bitching for a year, I got a chance to play at my favorite weekly. And it was so worth it! I was sick of spinning (this was the last booking of spaz week) and it was over, I was pleasantly drunk, the mixer was DOPE! (PMC-05 pro), the monitors were nice and loud and punchy, the crowd was good to go, and it was Michael's birthday too. Mucho bass that night... if DJ success could only be counted in the number of beers driven of the speakers to untimely deaths...
October 3rd - Warmth - This was fun... what started out as an ambient booking turned into a techno booking as I realized I was spinning before Science, with Macadio following him. So screw ambient I sez, and went forth with a pounding uplifting set to get the whole thing rolling. Still kept a reverence for the mellower vibe of the room, and played with a lot of new records I'd scored earlier in the week. A really nice party in one of those small sweatbox locations you don't get to do too often.
October 9th - Dana's B-Day! - Yes! A surprise party where the person was obviously surprised! Dana is a total sweetheart, and deserved all the love and attention she got that night. Spun first, with a mellow houesy set to get the dance floor set up (it almost worked...). Heard some good stuff all night, including a little period where I started totally enjoying trance... hmm?
October 10th - First Light - Alright, a chance to avenge the evil forces that cut my set short at the last one. Or not. Four records into it, I was told that turning it down wasn't enough... I had to stop, the cops were here. Another renegade screwed up by kids who couldn't stay cool outside, and talking to the cops about paying to get in. When will the scene learn? I don't know. Why ask stupid questions on a calendar?
